Place d'Italie is the heart of the 13th arrondissement. Lying on the left bank of the River Seine, in the south-eastern part of the French capital, this area is primarily a residential and business district. Although not usually recognised as a natural draw card for tourists, the 13th nonetheless does hold several attractions of interest to the traveller . This includes the recently-completed Bibliotheque Nationale de France (National Library), which is now part of a major new development of the Paris Rive Gauche district and is the second large-scale urbanism project inside the city of Paris. To the west of the Rive Gauche, along avenue de Tolbiac is the first of these urbanism projects, Les Olympiades with it's impressive raised esplanade. This is also the location of a new metro station which is served by the new driverless hi-speed Metro line 14. The southern part of the arrondissement is the China town of Paris, which is one of (or even the) biggest in Europe.
