One of the most well known areas in Parisian history, the Place de la Concorde contains as much grim history as it holds beauty. In the biggest square in Paris, many crowds used to gather t observe the violent nature of a convicted person being beheaded at the hands of the famous guillotine, none more famous than like King Louis XVI and Marie-Antionette. The square also once held a large statue commemorating King Louis XV after his battle with an illness but like every other tribute to the monarchy, it was torn down by the Revolution. Today, the famous square is a grand space that visitors and locals come to enjoy the centre of culture in Paris. With beautiful 360 degree views, glorious fountains and majestic architecture the history of the area is inspiring.

The centre of the Place holds a giant Egyptian obelisk, decorated with hieroglyphics to mark the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II. It creates mystery for many of those interested to take look as it replaces the guillotine that used to stand there and adds to the heritage of the place. Located at the head of the Champs Elysees with the Tuileries Gardens the opposite side, it is in a wonderful area of the city and one that draws in thousands of people. Near to the Place are other great attractions such as Musee D Orsay, Musee Rodin and the great Eiffel Tower, with great hotels also nearby such as Le Meurice, Hotel Lotti and Hotel de Crillon.
